Uday Shankar

Uday Shankar is the Chief Executive Officer of STAR India, a wholly owned subsidiary of News Corporation. STAR is India's largest media entertainment company, reaching more than 400 million people across India and over 58 countries in the world. Since taking over, Uday has led the company's transformation from a leading national broadcaster to an integrated media company with significant presence in regional broadcasting, film production, cable, DTH and home-shopping.

Prior to joining STAR India in 2007, Uday was the CEO and Editor of MCCS, which operates leading news channels in Hindi, Bengali and Marathi. He joined MCCS from the TV Today group where, as the Editor, he spearheaded the launch of TV Today's Hindi and English news channels. Before that, he established Sahara TV's news operations.

Uday started his career as a political journalist with the Times of India. He later went on to specialize in environmental issues and was the Associate Director of the prestigious Centre for Science and Environment. Uday holds an M.Phil in Economic History from the Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi.

Sanjay Gupta is the Chief Operating Office for Star India. In his capacity as the COO, his role encompasses achieving operational efficiencies across the Company and assists the CEO Uday Shankar in driving the growth agenda of Star India.

A post graduate from IIM Kolkata, he brings in more than 18 years of extensive experience across various aspects of marketing and sales. Prior to Star, Sanjay was the Chief Marketing Officer with Bharti Airtel where he was instrumental in driving marketing, sales and distribution for the $6 bn mobile business. Before Bharti, he played a key marketing role in Hindustan Unilever in various functions such as Oral care and Home care divisions. He has worked with strong brands such as Close-up, Pepsodent, Wheel, Vim and Domex at HUL.

At Star, Sanjay oversees the operations of the Star channels with the channel heads reporting to him. Touted as one of the biggest initiatives by the network, Sanjay has been responsible for successfully turning around the brand Star Plus to Hindi GEC glory, by capturing the numero uno slot once again early this year. He thrives on the constantly changing dynamics of the media business and has one goal in mind and that is to make the business sustainable and consolidate the network's leadership position in the year ahead.

Sanjay is married with a son who is 10 years of age with an avid interest in sports.

Sanjay Jain is the President & Chief Financial Officer of STAR India since 2009. He is responsible for Finance & Administration.

Sanjay joined STAR India in September 2005 as Deputy Chief Financial Officer. Prior to joining STAR India, Sanjay was Vice President - Service Delivery in Genpact India, overseeing a team of 300+ employees delivering high end financial operations and processing for a key customer relationship.

He joined GE Capital Services India in December 1994 and handled various assignments in controllership, financial planning and analysis, acquisition integration, etc. during his 11year stint with GE Capital Services India (including international assignments based in of USA)

Prior to joining GE Capital Services India, Sanjay worked in various roles with SRF Finance Ltd, Jagatjit Industries Ltd. And Sona Steering Systems Ltd.

Sanjay holds a CA from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India

As the Network Sales Head, Kevin Vaz is responsible for revenue generation for the entire bouquet of Hindi, English and Niche genres under the STAR umbrella. As a new revenue driver, he has created a specialized brand solutions cell to provide network solutions for advertisers looking for national high impact entry.

He joined STAR India Pvt. Ltd. as a Sales Executive in 1996 after a brief stint of 3 years with The Times of India. He is credited with innovative initiatives like the Vodafone roadblock that was created a couple of years ago which was an out-of-the-box, bold idea and a path breaking initiative in the television advertising space. For the Future Group, The Great Indian Shopping Festival was a first of its kind shopping festival on television wherein the STAR Network tied up for a Media Partnership which resulted in the Future Group spending 90% of their all India Budget on STAR Group alone with 9 channels supporting the Festival.

Kevin holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce from the Mumbai University following which he obtained a Diploma in Administration Management from NMIMS and a Diploma in Business Finance from the Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts.
