Ekta Kapoor's Ye Hai Mohabbatein fills 11 pm slot on Star Plus

26 November 2013

?For every channel their shows are their biggest properties. The Hindi GEC space has seen the launch of a variety of shows in the recent past. Star Plus, Star TV’s leading Hindi GEC channel is a one stop destination with their most watched and highly rated shows. The association between the channel and production house Balaji Telefilms has been a long standing one and their shows have always contributed in boosting the channel’s TRPs. Post their popular non-fiction property Nach Baliye, Star Plus is now all set to launch their latest fiction property ‘Ye Hai Mohabbatein’ produced by Ekta Kapoor.

The show with a fresh concept has been confirmed for the late night 11 p.m. time slot. Considered a prime time slot by the channel the show is expected to work well with the urban audience primarily SEC A in cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Ahmedabad. Nothing could be more suitable than the popular proverb ‘Love Thy Neighbour’, for the show Ye Hai Mohabbatein. It presents a relatable, urban story of two neighbours viz. the Iyers and the Bhallas living in Delhi, who are in a conflict prone relationship. But the story gets even more interesting when the Iyers' dentist daughter Ishita Iyer and the Bhallas' businessman son Raman Bhalla find themselves bound by an unusual bond. Not every relationship has a name and theirs is defined by Raman’s adorable daughter Ruhi with whom Ishita develops a strong attachment. This attachment leads to Ishita’s proximity to the man who she dislikes the most viz. Raman. “We are delighted to partner with Ekta once again for Ye Hai Mohabbatein. The concept was brought to us by her almost a year back and the story is urban and contemporary. This love story begins after a marriage gets over. It explores the theme of a second chance in love. With well etched characters and a strong urban narrative, the show deals with day-to-day issues faced by modern couples. We are positive that our metro audiences will connect with Ishita and Raman and follow their story,” says Gaurav Banerjee, General Manager, STAR Plus.

How far can one really go for a child? Can someone get into a romantic relationship only for the love and attachment of a child? This is what Ye Hai Mohabbatein addresses. It is a heart-warming story that revolves around a simple, middle-class girl, Ishita Iyer, with a past of a failed relationship. Her life changes when fate brings her face to face with a 5 year old girl, Ruhi with whom she develops an immediate bond. It is the love for this child that brings her close to Ruhi’s father, Raman Bhalla. On the other hand, Raman is a rich business man, a single dad with a bitter outlook on life. With various upheavals in their lives, Ishita and Raman’s journey with Ruhi as their mediator makes a compelling story. Talking about the show, Ekta Kapoor, Balaji Telefilms, said "My association with STAR goes back a long way. We have celebrated together many successes and created iconic characters through generations. I look forward to working with them closely on this show and I am sure that the viewers will accept Ishita and Raman into their families." When asked if the channel faces any competition and also about their views on the way forward for the channel Banerjee opined, "There is competition, which gives our viewers good choices and also pushes us to do better. Strategically we believe that we need to not just write stories but also adapt stories and STAR Plus has been following this strategy and started executing it a year back with Saraswatichandra, followed by Mahabharat and now Ye Hai Mohabbatein based on Manju Kapur's Custody. If someone follows it, it's great but again STAR Plus as a channel has set a new trend." The show marks the return of popular TV stars Divyanka Tripathi and Karan Patel in lead roles along with veteran artists like Neena Kulkarni, Abhay Bhargav, Kaushal Kapoor, Shenaz Rizwan and Ruhanika Dhawan in pivotal characters. "Manju Kapur is one of my favourite author and her novels always have a message to share and so does her novel Custody. I bought rights from her for the show and it took us long to decide a title for the show and finally from Custody we are presenting Ye Hai Mohabbatein. Yes, I've made loads of changes in the show in terms of characters and the story line to suit the television format," shared Ekta Kapoor. Banerjee further added, "It's difficult to predict anything as of now from the show. With this show we are in good hands as we are familiar with Ekta's work, since she has given us some of her best shows in the past. It's a good story with a progressive message. I think the concept is good for Indian television which needs fresher stories and to find such stories there could be no place better than our literature." Star Plus along with Balaji Telefilms brings audiences a passionate and an emotional love story wrapped in stylized production, butter-soft cinematography and well-directed story-telling with Ye Hai Mohabbatein that premiers Tuesday, 3rd December 2013 and will air from Monday - Friday at 11.00 p.m.
