Govt wakes up to Aamir Khan’s water call

Impressed by the initiative taken by actor Aamir Khan on his reality show Satyamev Jayateto highlight water scarcity and pollution, the state government has assured the actor that it will help him in raising funds for the purpose.

Water supply and sanitation minister Laxman Dhoble had a two-hour long meeting with the actor at the latter’s residence on Saturday morning. The minister told the actor that water pollution issue can only tackled by raising awareness among the people.

“Aamir told the minister that he would support the government in every respect be it endorsing the events or accompanying the government representative to the central government and even the World Bank.He said that he would personally participate in the initiatives and the programme,” said an official from the department. The actor told the minister that he will be available for them once he was back from the US after two months.

Aamir was also requested to represent the state by becoming the brand ambassador on the issue.

Dhoble said he wanted to thank the actor for taking up the issue. The state has nearly 70 rivers. According to a pollution control board report, release of industrial waste, sewaragepolluting rivers in the state.
