Star India appoints Ajit Thakur to head Star One

Ex-Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television Ajit Thakur has joined Star India to head its Hindi GEC Star One. Thakur, who was given international assignment at Multi Screen Media in March this year, is replacing Nikhil Mirchandani who left Star One in May this year. Ajit Thakur will report into Sanjay Gupta, COO, Star India.

Thakur had joined Sony in July 2009 from Balaji Telefilms where he was CEO of the motion pictures division. Prior to this, he was Chief Operation Officer at UTV Television.

An MBA from IIM Lucknow, Thakur had stints with HUL and Coca-Cola India.

Star Plus - Marketing and content strategy Head, Nikhil Madhok said, “Comedy was on our mind since a long time. But we didn’t want to come up with anything just for the sake of it. We waited to come up with something that we believe in." On the other hand, those who recognise that are willing to swing to the other extreme and do anything. That also is neither healthy nor sustainable.”

Channel V plans more events

Prem Kamath, channel head, Channel V, adds, "Participation has gone up by almost 100 per cent. We have had 500-600 participants earlier, this year we had about 1000 participants in each zonal."
