Star Plus up; Colors & Sony stable; Zee TV loses eyeballs

Balika Vadhu on Colors tops the chart with 6.1 TVR; highest opening for India’s Got Talent; IIFA scores 4.3 for Star Plus.

TAM viewership data for week 31 has brought many reasons to cheer for Hindi GECs. Scoring high on TAM people meters, IIFA Awards has pushed Star Plus up while Balika Vadhu has garnered 6.1 TVR for Colors. Not only this, Colors’ latest non-fiction show India’s Got Talent opened at 3.9 TVR which is the highest non-fiction show opening for this year on GECs.

The top 5 programs of this week are: Balika Vadhu (6.1); Zee TV’s Pavitra Rishta (4.9); Star Plus’ Saathiya (4.1) and IIFA Awards (4.3) and Uttaran on Colors (4.3).

India’s No.1 Hindi general entertainment channel Star Plushas seen a spurt in its GRPs for the week 31 of TAM 2011 due to the excellent performance of IIFA on the people meters. IIFA has scored 4.3 TVR for the channel while Just Dance is maintaining an average TVR above 3 continuously. Star Plus has recorded 345 GRPs this week (last week 316).

The second most watched Hindi GEC Colorshas two big reasons to cheer this week. While its flagship fiction show Balika Vadhu has garnered an exceptional 6.1 TVR, channel’s latest non-fiction offering India’s Got Talent has opened at 3.9 TVC which is the highest non-fiction show opening for this year on GECs. Recently, Just Dance had opened at 3.7 on Star Plus. However, Colors has maintained the status quo in terms of overall GRPs for the week. The channel has recorded 266 GRPs in the week 31 of TAM 2011 (last week 267).

After recovering from its losses in last week, the No.3 Hindi GEC Zee TVhas not been able to hold the eyeballs in the week 31. The channel has recorded 208 GRPs on TAM people meters (220 GRPs last week)

Riding on the successfully running fiction show Bade Achche Lagte Hain,Sony Entertainment Televisionhas been able to hold the viewers this week and garnered 190 GRPs (last week 193).

SABTVhas recorded 125 GRPs (last week 124).

India’s No.6 Hindi general entertainment channelImagine TVhas added 5 points to take its GRPs to 71 in this week (last week 66). The new reality series ‘Gajab Desh Ki Ajab Kahaaniyaan’ hosted by Rakhi Sawant has opened at 0.8 TVR on Friday & garnered 0.7 TVR on Saturday.

Star One has recorded 37 TVR in week 31 of TAM 2011 (last week 36) while Sahara One is at 30 TVR (last week 33).

We are positive that our metro audiences will see a connect with Ishita and Raman, and follow their story.”

Star India and Zee TV say the focus on making the stories relevant to today's generation has led to the success. "Vyasa wrote the Mahabharat after the Vedas, to convey the same message as the Vedas but through a story," says Star India's programming head Danish Khan.
