The New Year is set to kick off to a flying start with the traditional rivalry between Mohan Bagan and East Bengal. Football fans across Bengal are gearing up for the upcoming derby match between the two giants on January 11, 2014. And Jalsha Movies is very much a part of the celebration. The channel has come up with a series of Calcutta Football League (CFL) derby match promotional films which, through the shock values in them, will bring back the Bengalis’ obsession with football.
The films, created in-house, capture the bigger dream of India playing the 2026 World Cup Football tournament. The clubbing together of racial identity and football obsession plays a crucial role in all the films in the series. Each of the films revolves around a typical Bengali character who desperately urges people around to give the world a taste of the talent Bengalis have got in the field of football. The films end with a pledge to make it to the 2026 Football World Cup. The films, in effect, connect the wider cultural identity of Bengal with its eternal passion for football.
Two short films depicting the history of both the clubs, Mohun Bagan and East Bengal, are also on air.
“We at Jalsha Movies with CFL have taken the viewing experience of football in Bengal to a different level. Bengal’s enthusiasm for the game of football is well known and it is only apt that a campaign such as this is rolled out from this state. We hope that this campaign is endorsed by all,” said Kevin Vaz, Business Head, Star Jalsha & Jalsha Movies.
CFL, through Jalsha Movies, is becoming an event to celebrate football mania that knows no barrier. The derby match is just the start of the big dream for football in India.

Content acquisition a double-edged sword for English GECs

Kevin Vaz, Business Head, Star World which also has channels like, FX and Star World Premiere HD said, “Our audience has the maximum skewness towards drama, hence we are keen to acquire shows in that category. We acquired 26 news shows in September 2013. When we chose shows, the audience profile matters a lot. Our core audience would be up-market English speaking people who like global content.”
