ZAYRA ALVAREZ RULETA
Day Job: Singer/Song Writer
Hometown: Richardson, Texas (originally from Puerto Rico)
Born in Puerto Rico, Zayra Alvarez took part in talent shows and school plays when she was a child. At age 14, she started playing in a few bands. However, she was unable to pursue her musical aspirations because she didn't know where to start. After studying at university, she unexpectedly rekindled her passion for music during a visit to Dallas, Texas, in which she was inspired to start writing on her own. Zayra began performing acoustic nights in Dallas' Deep Ellum club district and became a regular at Liquid Lounge, singing both English and Spanish.
After hitting the clubs for over two years, she recorded her first album "Breaking up Grey Skies", an acoustic EP which she described as very raw and pure. She then embraced her Latin roots and recorded her defining album "Ruleta". This was a breakthrough moment as she delivered eleven incredible songs showcasing her voice and song writing ability. Zayra then hit the road with her new band and her CD's packed away in the van. She toured constantly opening for Blue October, Los Lonely Boys, La Ley, and Circo. She was invited to sing for Blue October on their songs. |
