GEC Watch: Bigg Boss helps Colors return at No. 2

Bigg Boss 8 opens at 7.6 TVM and averages at 4.7 TVM over the Week 39 of TAM 2014.

Bigg Boss season 8 launched with a whopping viewership of 7.6 TVM and helped Colors return at No. 2 in Week 39 of TAM 2014. The show averaged at 4.7 TVM over the week.
According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 38 of TAM 2014 (September 21 – September 27) for CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus strengthened its leadership position, Zee TV slipped at No. 3 followed by Life OK at No. 4. SAB TV and Sony were at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively.
Star Plus recorded a viewership of 593 GTVM and a relative share of 26.16% (last week 580 GTVM and 25.63% of relative share).
Colors returned to No. 2 position riding on Bigg Boss season 8. The channel fetched a gross viewership of 431 GTVM with a relative share of 19.01% (last week 412 GTVM and 18.21% of relative share).
Zee TV slipped to No. 3 with a gross viewership of 427 GTVM with 18.84% relative share (last week 443 GTVM and 19.58% relative share).
Life OK witnessed a surge in ratings this week and strengthened its position at No. 4. It recorded a gross viewership of 307 GTVM and a relative share of 13.54% (last week 295 GTVM and 13.04% of relative share).
SAB TV retained No. 5 position with a gross viewership of 262 GTVM. The channel had a relative share of 11.56% (last week 269 TVM and 11.89% of relative share).
Sony witnessed decline in its gross viewership and recorded 247 GTVM with a relative share of 10.90% (last week 264 GTVM and 11.67% of relative share).
Top Shows:
As all eyes were at the launch of big ticket reality show, ‘Bigg Boss Season 8’, on Colors in Week 39, it opened strongly as expected. The show opened at 7.6 TVM over 2.5 hours on September 21 and averaged 4.7 TVM over the first week.
While Star Plus retained the top slot with ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ topping the chart, the channel dominated weekday programming with 5 shows in the top 10. Zee TV had 3 shows in the top 10 followed by Colors and SAB TV with one show each.
‘Comedy Night with Kapil’ on Colors remained the most watched show during the weekend.

Star Plus’ Diya Aur Baati Hum retained the top slot in week 39. The show recorded an average viewership of 8.2 TVM this week (last week 8.1 TVM).
Zee TV’s Jodha Akbar rose one position to No. 2 with an average viewership of 7.8 TVM (last week 7.7 TVM).
Kumkum Bhagya on Zee TV slipped to No. 3 position with an average viewership of 7.3 TVM (last week 7.8 TVM).
Star Plus’ Sathiya Saath Nibhana held No. 4 position with an average viewership of 7.1 TVM (last week 7.1 TVM).
Star Plus’ Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai jumped one position at No. 5 this week. The show recorded an average viewership of 6.7 TVM (last week 6.4 TVM).
Ye Hai Mohabbatein on Star Plus hit the chord with viewers on its new 7.30 PM slot. The show recorded 6.7 TVM in its first week.
Jamai Raja on Zee TV slipped two positions to No. 7 position this week. The show garnered an average viewership of 6.4 TVM (last week 7 TVM).
Colors’ Sasural Simar Ka was at No. 7 with an average viewership of 5.8 TVM (last week 6.2 TVM).
Tarak Mehta on SAB TV slipped one position to No. 9 with an average viewership of 5.7 TVM against last week’s 6.1  TVM.
Pyaar Ka Dard Hai on Star Plus returned to the top-10 club with an average viewership of 5.7 TVM (last week 5.1 TVM).
Weekend toppers
Colors’ Comedy Nights With Kapil topped the weekend chart yet again with viewership of 6.7 TVM (last week 6.2).
Sony’s crime series, CID, fetched 3.4 TVM against last week’s 3.5 TVM.
Star Plus’ weekend singing reality show, India’s Raw Star, fetched 3.2 TVM (last week 3.4 TVM).
Zee TV’s Neeli Chhatri Wale dropped to 2.8 TVM (last week 3.3 TVM).
Airlines on Star Plus fetched 2.4 TVM (last week 2.5).
Colors’ The Anupam Kher Show declined to 2.4 TVM (last week 1.7 TVM).
Life OK’s Dare to Dance has dropped to 2.4 TVM against last week’s 2.5 TVM.
Shapath on Life Ok was at 1.8 TVM (last week 2.2).
India’s Best Cine Star Ki Khoj on Zee TV fetched 1.4 TVM (last week 1.5 TVM).
Sony’s crime show, Crime Patrol was dropped to 1.3 TVM (last week 1.7 TVM).
