Starting 15th May, FX India reminds us why India needs Doctor Who

“The universe is big. It’s vast and complicated and ridiculous. And sometimes, very rarely, impossible things just happen and we call them miracles”-- The Doctor

Mumbai, 6th May 2015: Get set to embark on a time travel adventure of a lifetime! This May, FX prepares to invade Indian Television with the greatest cult science fiction series ever made- Doctor Who. Starting 15th May, anticipation levels will hit the roof as viewers get the much awaited chance to come face to face with the universe’s real hero- every Monday to Friday, 9pm only on FX India.

Ever since its inception, ‘Doctor Who’ has enjoyed the distinction of being one of the greatest science fiction shows with a phenomenal cult following of over 77 million fans across the globe, which only increased after it’s revival in 2005. Winner of 98 Awards and 129 other nominations, this series even holds the Guinness World Record for the largest simulcast of a TV drama - 98 countries across 6 continents! Over the recent years, ‘Doctor Who’ has won over 5 million fans on Facebook, 1.2million followers on Twitter, and in November 2014, the YouTube channel bagged a new subscriber every 41 seconds!

The iconic series follows the adventures of the Doctor, a Time Lord—a time-travelling humanoid alien. He explores the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient time-travelling space ship. Along with a succession of companions, the Doctor combats a variety of foes while working to save civilizations and help people in need. One of the most unique characters of all times, this Time Lord is over 2000 years old and has the power to regenerate when his body becomes damaged. He is a rather unusual hero as he doesn’t have a tank or a warship or even an X-wing fighter to move from one era to another, all he has is a call box named TARDIS. Armed with his favorite accessory, a screwdriver, this time-traveling alien adventurer has vowed to prevent evil forces from harming innocent people or changing history. Instead of mesmerizing superpowers or remarkable physical appearances, he has an extra heart, which is an extraordinary thing in itself. It’s no secret that ‘Doctor Who’ exists to fire our imagination!

Life OK enters the third year with a fantasy

Ajit Thakur, general manager, Life OK, says, "When we launched Devon Ke Dev Mahadev two years back, we knew we had a winner. With Mahadev we gave the nation a hero, an icon they worshipped, loved and admired on the weekdays at 8 pm. And now, with our latest launch, The Adventures of Hatim, we will take this legacy one step ahead and give our viewers their weekend 8 pm hero."

Life OK charts a winning strategy

“Life OK was supposed to be a challenger to the No. 1 slot within the network. We had the full backing of the management in terms of intent and investment. But the proof that we can actually do it has come only in the last 6-8 months. We have grown to 14 per cent share and reached No. 4. But more importantly, people are taking notice that in terms of reach, we are as good as the top channel! Having said that, we are getting as many failures as we are getting hits. So there is more we need to do

Life OK: Rising Star

Sanjay Gupta, COO, Star India, "Star One wasn't sharply positioned. It didn't make much sense to either viewers or advertisers. There was an opportunity to talk to conservative India, where people believe in the importance of tradition and family. The revenues of Life OK are much more than five times those of Star One. It has the potential to be the next No 1."
