GEC Watch: IPL hits Hindi GECs as it comes to India

MAX grows to 541 TVM against last week’s 457 TVM after the IPL matches move to India in Week 19 of TAM 2014.

As IPL returned to India in Week 19 of TAM 2014, the Hindi general entertainment channels witnessed further decline in their viewership. After Colors, Zee TV also slipped below the 400-mark this week while Star Plus continued to be 338 GTVMs ahead of the nearest competition. Star Plus’ weekday primetime viewership stayed ahead of Colors and Zee put together for the second consecutive week.

According to data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 19 of TAM 2014 (May 4 – May 10) for CS 4+, HSM markets, the pecking order of Hindi GECs remained unchanged. Star Plus remained the distant leader followed by Zee TV at No. 2 and Colors at No. 3. Life OK maintained its lead over Sony and SAB TV.

Star Plusrecorded a gross viewership of 733 TVM this week. The relative share of Star Plus was at 30.47% (last week 746 TVM with 30.21% relative share).

Zee TVdropped further and slipped below the 400-mark this week. The channel recorded a gross viewership of 395 GTVM with a relative share of 16.42% (last week 409 TVM and 16.57% relative share).

Colorslost maximum eyeballs this week and dropped further to 376 GTVMs. The channel had a relative share of 15.63% (last week 396 TVM with 16.04% relative share).

Life OKtoo recorded decline in viewership this week and dropped to a gross viewership of 348 TVM with a relative share of 14.46% (last week 360 TVM and 14.58%).

Sony’sgross viewership was recorded at 286 TVM with a relative share of 11.89% (last week 291 TVM and 11.79% relative share).

SAB TVheld its viewers and recorded a gross viewership of 268 TVM. The channel’s relative share was at 11.14% (last week 267 TVM and 10.81% relative share).
