GEC Watch: Star Plus and Zee TV score high on weekday programming

Mahabharat witnesses surge in viewership in Week 15 of TAM 2014. Encounter on Sony opens at 2.4 TVM while Naadan Parindey on Life OK launches at 2.6 TVM

The game of dice leading to Draupdi’s ‘cheer haran’ took Mahabhart at its peak viewership and helped Star Plus clock the highest GTVMs ever achieved by any channel in Indian Television History. As Mahabharat entered the top-5 club with 9.1 TVM, Star Plus’ other shows Diya Aur Baati Hum, Saathiya and Saraswatichandra also performed exceptionally well.

According to TVT data sourced from TAM subscribers for Week 15 of TAM 2014 (April 6 – April 12) CS 4+, HSM markets, Star Plus’ dominance in the weekday programming grew further with higher viewership for its seven shows in top-10. Zee TV too witnessed surge in viewership of its weekday shows and the channel secured two slots in top-10 club. SAB’s Tarak Mehta continued to be in the top-10 club.

Weekend programming was clearly dominated by Colors with Comedy Nights with Kapil at the top followed by Khatron Ke Khiladi. Special episode of Comedy Nights with Kapil with Amitabh Bachchan as the guest continued to do well on Sunday and rated 11 TVM.

Among new shows launched this week, Encounter on Sony opened at 2.4 TVM while Naadan Parindey on Life OK launched at 2.6 TVM.

Weekday toppers (all data in TVM, 000000’s)

Diya Aur Baati Hum on Star Plus strengthened its leadership with 13.4 TVM this week (last week 11.9 TVM).

Star Plus’Saathiyaalso witnessed surge in its viewership. The show fetched an average viewership of 10.7 TVM (last week 9.8).

Jodha Akbaron Zee TV too grew to 9.3 TVM (last week 8.9 TVM).

Star Plus’ epic series,Mahabharat,jumped 3 positions to No. 4. It garnered 9.1 TVM this week (last week 6.6 TVM).

Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Haiwas the fourth show from Star Plus in top-5 club. It garnered an average viewership of 7.9 TVM (last week 7.7 TVM).

SAB’s Taarak Mehta ka Ooltah Chashma slipped one position to No. 6 with an average viewership of 7.9 TVM (last week 7.4 TVM).

Veeraon Star Plus was at No. 7 position with an average viewership of 6.7 TVM (last week 6.9 TVM).

Star Plus’Saraswatichandramade a comeback in top-10 club at No. 8 this week by garnering 6.6 TVM (last week 4.9 TVM).

Do Dil Bandhe Ek Dori Seon Zee TV entered the top-10 club with an average viewership of 6 TVM (last week 5.1 TVM).

Pyaar Ka Dard Haion Star Plus was at No. 10 with an average viewership of 5.8 TVM (last week 6.3 TVM).

Weekend toppers

Comedy Night with Kapilon Colors fetched an average viewership of 9.1 TVM in Week 15 (last week 9.7).

Colors’ flagship showFear Factor – Khatron Ke Khiladidropped to 6 TVM (last week 7.1).

Sony’s crime series,CID, fetched 4.8 TVM against last week’s 5.4 TVM.

Dance India Dance L’il Masters Season 3 on Zee TV dropped to 3.9 TVM this week (last week 4.3 TVM).

Fear Fileson Zee TV fetched 2.7 TVM against last week’s 2.8 TVM.

Sony’s second crime show,Crime Patrol,garnered 2.6 TVM (last week 2.9).

HatimonLife OK fetched 2.3 TVM (last week 2.3).

EncounteronSony opened at 2.4 TVM and averaged at 2.2 TVM.

Life OK’sShapathrecorded 2.1 TVM (last week 2.8).
