For the first quarter of 2014, Satyamev Jayate 2 maintained an average TVT rating of above 7,ooo for the whole of March. Before Aamir Khan premiered his short-yet-thought-provoking show, Kapil Sharma's's Comedy Nights were enjoying TVTs above 10,000.

With wide ranging issues such as criminalisation of politics, rape and waste disposal, Aamir's show only had five episodes this season. Its popularity again proves there is space for such programming on Indian television.

Ekta Kapoor's historical saga Jodha Akbar topped the list of most popular TV shows this quarter. It maintained TVT ratings of more than 9,000 for the first two months, a rating that fell sharply in February and March to an average of 5,000 TAM rating.

Star Plus sitcom Diya Aur Bati Hum ranks next on the list, maintaining TRP ratings of 5.0 to 7.1 and even jumping to above 9 and 10 in mid-Feb. Taarak Mehta Ka Ulta Chashma comes next, having maintained an average TRP rating of 6.3 throughout the quarter. The comedy show based on writer Taarak Mehta's book
