Secretive Aamir Khan turns TV studio into Fort Knox

8 April 2012

Considerable hype is automatically generated over any new project Aamir Khan takes up, so it is understandable that the superstar is exercising utmost caution to ensure his television debut doesn't get over-exposed.

Aamir makes his reality TV debut with Satyamev Jayate, the buzz being that the show will air May onwards.

Although the first promo of the show is out, Aamir, Bollywood's brightest marketing brain, is leaving no scope for outsiders to get a whiff of what the show is all about.

The buzz is that the set where Aamir is shooting for Satyamev Jayate has been converted into a Fort Knox of sorts, with 30-odd bodyguards deployed to prevent outsiders from entering.

That's not all. The studio set will feature a 250-strong live audience in every episode, and each of the guests are thoroughly frisked before they enter the set - lest they bring in any kind of recording device.

To prevent any video or pictorial content being leaked, the entire studio is covered with a network of CCTV cameras.

The crew, comprising around 300 members, has also been strictly instructed to be secretive about the content of the show. Satyamev Jayate, to be aired on Star Plus, is co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Star India and is being shot in various remote cities across the country.

Aamir has been shooting with common people and initial reports suggest he will highlight their plight in various circumstances on the show.

'The channel has been secretive about the show ever since it was conceptualised.

'Aamir too has taken certain measures to ensure that the shooting takes place smoothly and there is no unnecessary buzz about Satyamev Jayate before he feels the time is right to publicise the show,' said a channel source.

On Monday, the channel released three capsule promo of the show. These promos feature Aamir in a candid mood, sitting at home and brainstorming over the concept of show.

Six more such promos have been lined up through which the exact nature of the show's content will be gradually revealed, closer to the launch. The initial promos aired Monday onwards are based on the theme 'Dil Se Dekho'.

These feature Aamir having a quick bite of Raggi chappati from a thali and sipping his cuppa, in a bid to establish his connect with the common man, the theme of the show.

'The promos were shot in Aamir's house in Bandra. He actually allowed the crew to shoot him as he talked about the show seated in his living room and balcony,' said the source.

In a forthcoming promo, he will be seen brainstorming over the show even as he plays with a Rubik's Cube. His two pet cats are also a part of the promotional campaign.

Star Plus' rejigged programming pays off

Gaurav Bannerjee, Head, Star Plus explains, “While it is true that the increase in ratings is a result of extendng the weekday strategy to Saturday, I also believe it is because of the stickiness of our content. Our weekday prime time has 11 shows out of which almost 5 to 6 are in the top ten every week. So our content, which we have worked very hard to suit the contemporary Indian woman across geographies, has found a hook with our audience."

The tussle over live cricket scores

Ajit Mohan, Head, New Media, Star India said, “Digital should be an incremental leap in the way people consume sports. But if you look at the current crop of digital sports service companies, it has been a huge regressive step backwards, because essentially you’re trying to describe a match through text commentary."

Saif Ali Khan’s 'Bullett Raja' set for World TV Premiere on Star Gold

Hemal Jhaveri, Channel Head, Star Gold said, “We have always focused on showcasing a mix of all genres to our viewers with entertaining content; and have always received a phenomenal response for our premieres from the viewers. Besides a great star cast, Bullett Raja isone of the few critically acclaimed commercial entertainers of 2013. With this premiere, Star Gold once again reiterates its promise of bringing the latest and biggest Bollywood premieres on TV”
