Hyderabad, 25th January 2018: Today, Star Maa, the leading Telugu entertainment channel which is part of Star India, and global Video on Demand service, Viu, announced the Indian version of Emmy award-winning format ‘Hollywood Squares’ for Telugu market titled ‘Tollywood Squares’. Created in Telugu, the 26-episode weekend celebrity show is set to go live on January 27th, 2018 on Star Maa and Viu app & website simultaneously where new episodes will release every Saturday and Sunday at 9:30 PM

The series will introduce audiences to a never-before-seen format in regional entertainment. Hosted by film actor and television personality Navdeep, the series will be based on Tic-Tac-Toe, a universally popular game and showcase nine new celebrities and two new contestants in each episode.

With this, Star Maa and Viu (the premium video on demand service provider for emerging markets by Vuclip and PCCW) bring the multiple Emmy award-winning celebrity based tic-tac-toe game show format to Telugu audience for the very first time, introducing them to a refreshing new concept.

The launch of Tollywood Squares is aligned to Star Maa’s promise of delivering compelling content that appeals to the masses, breaks conventional boundaries of language and in the process sets trends in Television. Viu, the OTT service by Vuclip and PCCW, have emphasized original regional digital content since their launch in 2016 and have launched some very successful shows in Telugu. This partnership will help deliver cross-platform content as the show will be available on a digital platform and a television channel simultaneously.

Commenting on this occasion Mr. Alok Jain, Business Head Star Maa said “We at Star Maa has always been in the forefront of pioneering new shows and bring unique formats to entertain our viewers. We are known for bringing the best of its kind of shows from around the world and present it to our Telugu viewers in the regional flavour. In this regard, we are pleased to now bring 'Hollywood Squares', an international award-winning format first in India for the Telugu people. The show is an exciting version of our favourite childhood game "Tic-tac-toe", however, adapted for television viewing with interesting celebrities in the 9 squares of the game. I am confident that this show will take our viewers across all age groups down the memory lanes and transform the TV viewers’ experience. We are extremely pleased to partner with Viu for this show and together entertain our viewers”

Elaborating on the show and Partnership, Vishal Maheshwari, Country head, Viu India said, “We are thrilled to bring the most sought-after celebrity game show of Tollywood Squares. At Viu, our constant focus is to bring refreshing narratives and exciting new formats that appeal to the millennials. Our insights strengthened our belief that a format like this, which is iconic in its own right globally, would be a timely new addition to our bouquet of differentiated content. What is exciting about this format is that while contestants on the panel will be the ones playing the show, it will engage our viewers to such an extent that it will make them feel like participants themselves, whilst watching it on their digital screens. Our ‘Viuers’ can look forward to an array of similar cutting-edge, fresh and entertaining content in 2018.”
