Mumbai, 16th September 2014: Every individual has a personal challenge that they are willing to go to any lengths to overcome – their very own EVEREST. And finally when one is able to achieve it, the feeling is nothing short of conquering the highest summit in the world. STAR Plus and celebrated film maker Ashutosh Gowariker have come together to present one such inspirational story – EVEREST.

EVEREST is the story of Anjali, a young girl who aspires to conquer her own personal EVEREST.  At the age of 21, she gets a rude shock when she discovers that her father, who she hero worships, never really wanted a daughter. Faced with the biggest conflict of her life, Anjali is forced to question her very own existence. To redeem herself and find a place in her father’s heart she decides to fulfill her father’s unfulfilled dream – to summit the greatest and highest of all mountains, Mt Everest.

A project of this magnitude and scale, which demands extreme physical and mental strength, required a world-class crew to do complete justice to the concept. Produced under the AGPPL banner, the series has brought together some of the finest artistes from both Bollywood and the Indian Television industry:

-Directors: Glenn Baretto and Ankush Mohla

-Music Composer: AR Rahman

-Writers: Ashutosh Gowariker and Mitali Mahajan (Story & Series Screenplay), Bhavani Iyer (Episodic Screenplay) & Preeti Mamgain, Lalit Marathe and Manisha Korde (Dialogues)

-Visual Design: Aparna Raina (Art Direction), Preeti Sharma (Costumes)and National Award winner Vikram Gaikwad (Makeup Design)

Commenting on this occasion, Writer and Producer Ashutosh Gowariker said, “EVEREST is symbolic of every person who struggled in their life to accomplish something. The crew has been a very integral part of this show and EVEREST wouldn’t have been possible without their invaluable contribution. Considering the extremely challenging nature of the terrain, the process of making EVEREST has forced each one of them to push beyond their own creative, physical and mental fitness boundaries. In a way, this show has been everyone’s personal EVEREST.”

Taking the show to the next level, highly acclaimed Music Composer AR Rahman has been roped in to provide the music for this series. “The theme for the title track has been made, keeping in mind the scale of Mt. Everest. The show has high impact visual, and now that we have HD and 5.1 sound, audiences are in for a better experience. It’s a great platform to express music and play round with textures” concluded AR Rahman.

With this series, STAR Plus is once again set to raise the bar of content currently showcased on Indian Television. Shot in real locations, and featuring a powerhouse of talent, the show promises to bring to your TV sets, scale, grandeur and visual splendor of a magnitude unlike any seen before.

Gaurav Banerjee, General Manager, STAR Plus said “STAR Plus has always believed in breaking stereotypes and doing something new. We believe in women who are not daunted by the most difficult of odds. This is why we are excited in partnering with one of India's iconic film makers, Ashutosh Gowariker in a story where a girl's dream is to win over her father's love by conquering Mt Everest.”

Slated to launch soon on STAR Plus, EVEREST is a story that is not only set beyond the 4 walls, but comes with the promise of literally taking viewers to unimaginable heights. It is the story of ordinary people and their extraordinary dreams. It is a story of a majestic mountain versus a mighty heart.

High hopes for ‘Satyamev Jayate 2’

With a tagline that reads: ‘Jinhe Desh Ki Fikar Hai’, season two promises hard-hitting content like before but the format will be different.

Star Plus' rejigged programming pays off

Gaurav Bannerjee, Head, Star Plus explains, “While it is true that the increase in ratings is a result of extendng the weekday strategy to Saturday, I also believe it is because of the stickiness of our content. Our weekday prime time has 11 shows out of which almost 5 to 6 are in the top ten every week. So our content, which we have worked very hard to suit the contemporary Indian woman across geographies, has found a hook with our audience."

The tussle over live cricket scores

Ajit Mohan, Head, New Media, Star India said, “Digital should be an incremental leap in the way people consume sports. But if you look at the current crop of digital sports service companies, it has been a huge regressive step backwards, because essentially you’re trying to describe a match through text commentary."
