Star Plus and Yo Yo Honey Singh look for ‘India’s Raw Star’

14 August 2014

The unconventional singing reality showstarts Sunday, August 24 at 7 PM.

Star Plus and India’s biggest youth sensation, Yo Yo Honey Singh, have come together to launch a first of its kind, unconventional singing reality show, India’s Raw Star, which is all set to redefine the genre.  This Sunday show will launch on August 24, 2014, at 7 PM on Star Plus.

Contenders from across the country with their unique singing styles will battle it out to become India’s Raw Star. Yo Yo Honey Singh will be a friend, mentor and guide of the contestants. The show will be hosted by Gauhar Khan, who is also a huge fan of Yo Yo Honey Singh.

Everything about this show is different and unconventional. Unlike all other reality shows, where the audition process involves standing in long queues, India’s Raw Star conducted the first ever digital only auditions. People from all over the world sent in their video entries, which were personally scanned by Yo Yo Honey Singh and his team. The show won’t have the standard three-member judging panel, nor a ‘jodi’ of funny hosts and definitely no contestants who only know how to rehash popular Bollywood songs.

The look and feel of the show will be a visual treat for the viewers. They will also for the first time get to watch these performers sing original songs, which have been composed and written by them. For the first time ever, an Indian singing show will introduce the concept of music choreography. Star Plus has roped in international choreographer Michael Schwandtl who has worked with artistes such as Katy Perry and Lady Gaga on their performances. He will work with the contestants to visually enhance their singing performance and make it a delight for viewers to watch.

The show also has the celebrated Ashish Manchanda on board who will be heading the sound team. He is the only Indian sound engineer to have worked with Michael Jackson and has worked on a number of international music shows.

Produced by Gajendra Singh’s – Sai Baba Productions, India’s Raw Star is on the lookout for the ultimate performing artist who can create their own inimitable style of singing, and is an all-round performer irrespective of the language of singing or the genre of music.

Gaurav Banerjee, General Manager, Star Plus, said, “Star Plus has always been at the forefront of creating benchmarks. With India’s Raw Star, we are trying something unique in the singing reality show genre. The attempt is to reach out to the youth of this country and who better than the biggest youth icon, Yo Yo Honey Singh, to take this ahead. This show will change the visual and music grammar of singing reality shows in India. All the ten performers are very talented and Yo Yo Honey Singh has handpicked them so that the audiences get to see pure and raw talent.”

Yo Yo Honey Singh commented, “The talent on India’s Raw Star is unadulterated, just likemaa ke haath ka khaana, and I have tried my best to bring to you the best. It was a great experience to visit the homes of some of these contestants and pick them up as one of the top 10 for the show. During the training we are not tampering with their singing style, we are only grooming and sharpening their skills. India’s Raw Star is unlike any other singing reality show you would have seen on Indian television. It’s a path-breaking show that will break all stereotypes about talent shows.”

Gajendra Singh said, “The concept and format of India’s Raw Star is designed in a way that the audiences get the feel of a live music concert while sitting back in the comfort of their living rooms.”
