Star Plus bags ‘GEC of the Year’ at AVTA UK

 Star Plus has bagged the award for ‘General Entertainment Channel of the Year’ at the recently held Asian Viewers Television Awards (AVTA) in the UK.

The channel picked up another award for ‘Reality Programme of the Year’ for its celebrity dance reality show ‘Nach Baliye’.
English news channel NDTV won the ‘Best News Channel’ honour at the awards, while its group editor and senior anchor Barkha Dutt picked up the ‘Best Asian News Presenter’ award.
Speaking on the occasion, NDTV Group CEO Vikram Chandra said, “NDTV is not just number one in India but in the UK as well. We are very proud to have been awarded the Best News Channel by the Asian Viewers Television Awards. The fact that we were nominated and voted as the winner by our viewers, once again emphasises their trust in our credibility.”
In the other categories, B4U Music was awarded the ‘Music Channel of the Year’, while Colors’ fiction property ‘Rangrasiya’ picked up the ‘TV Soap of the Year’ award.
Sanaya Irani won the ‘Female Soap Personality of the Year’ award for her roles in Colors’ ‘Rangrasiya’ and Star Plus’ ‘Iss Pyaar Ka Kya Naam Doon’, while Vivian Dsena bagged the award in the male category for Colors’ ‘Madhubala’. Mohit Sehgal won the ‘Supporting Actor of the Year’ award for his role in Zee TV’s ‘Qubool Hai’.
TV actor Karan Tacker hosted the star-studded awards show and entertained audiences with several light-hearted and funny moments throughout the evening.
The inaugural award ceremony was held to honour the best of Asian Television in the UK. AVTA is the brainchild of Rajan Singh, formerly of Star TV and now heading Digi Media Global. The gala event was held at Lancaster Hotel in London.
The annual award ceremony recognises excellence across Asian television, honouring creative and inspiring individuals. As part of the selection process, viewers had the unique opportunity to vote for the winners under nine separate categories.
