Star Sports launches campaign for Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT) – ‘See Champions, Be Champions’

MUMBAI, June 30, 2017: As the world’s finest table-tennis players battle to be the best in India’s newest franchise-based professional sports league Ultimate Table Tennis (UTT), Star Sports has unveiled its campaign for the tournament - ‘See Champions, Be Champions’. The UTT league commences its inaugural season from July 13 to July 30.

UTT league promises to provide nearly three weeks of action-packed table tennis. The finesse of Sharath Kamal and the elegance of Han Ying in a Table Tennis arena is a sight to behold for any sports enthusiast. Holding true to its commitment of making sports a more engaging and immersive experience for viewers, Star Sports, India’s leading sports broadcaster, has launched a captivating film in the build-up to UTT league.

The first in the series of the campaign captures the unmissable action of the global sporting tournament. Fashioned around the theme - See Champions, Be Champions - the film showcases edgy Table Tennis action in a manner never seen before. It features two youngsters trying to imitate the skills of a Table Tennis maverick that they had witnessed on television, some time ago. The fast-paced, edgy action displayed by the two players, in the middle of a high-octane match, makes for a striking visual, which in-turn inspires the two viewers to test their skills in a setting as unlikely as a household.

Commenting on the film, a Star India spokesperson said, “The ‘See Champions, Be Champions’ film for Ultimate Table Tennis League (UTT) rediscovers the fervor for the sport in a refreshing way. It aims at showcasing Table tennis as a skill sport and break the stereotype of being a recreational sport. At Star Sports, through Ultimate Table Tennis, we want to renew the fan’s zeal for Table Tennis and provide fans a flavour of the dynamic, nail-biting action that they can expect from UTT league.”

Ultimate Table Tennis will be hosted in Chennai and New Delhi with the final leg held in Mumbai. It will have 18 matches divided into 15 leagues, two semis and one final.

Ashish Golwalkar, programming head, non-fiction, Star Plus, says, "If the content is strong, people really don't care about anything else as long as you are making them laugh. People keep drawing comparisons and we are aware of it. But, if you look at 'Mad in India' closely, it is a very different show. It will talk about day-to-day problems that we face but will have a funny take on all of them. It's not a satire, not a political comment, not a show taking digs on people, it's a show for, by an
