Star Plus receives 7,000 entries for ‘Fulfil Your Everest’ initiative

30 March 2015

Commemorating the 50th anniversary of man’s first successful scaling of Mt Everest, Star Plus and Fair and Lovely (FAL) Foundation joined hands for an initiative that will give 10 women a chance to trek to the Everest base camp led by Jamling Norgay, son of Tenzing Norgay.

Called ‘Fulfil Your Everest’, the campaign has received 7,222 entries (with 5,109 unique entries) via an online test where women from across the country shared their unique reasons to scale Everest.
The sponsored expedition starting April 2015 is an extension of the channel’s recently concluded show ‘Everest’, which was produced by Ashutosh Gowariker. The show focused on the journey of three individuals to reach Mt Everest.
Jamling Norgay, who, along with the lead actor of the show Shamata Anchan, was in Mumbai recently for a special message for the viewers of Star Plus, said, “2014 marks the 50th year of the first successful summit of Mt Everest. ‘Trek to Base Camp’ is a great initiative where 10 Indian women will get an opportunity to take that first step on their journey of summiting Mt Everest. This is a good initiative as it encourages women to step out and fulfil their dreams. This initiative also supports mountaineering as a sport.”
The selection process for ‘Trek to Base Camp’ was conducted online on the FAL Foundation website. Mercury Himalayan Explorations (MHE) went through all the entries and 10 women will be shortlisted by a panel based on various parameters including medical tests. MHE’s medical advisor will supervise the medical scrutiny.
The finalists will get to spend 17 days with Norgay as he shares his Mt Everest expedition experience with them and inspires them to scale the world’s highest peak. MHE will announce the names of the shortlisted women at a ceremony where the ‘1965 Golden Team’ will be felicitated.Source: Televisionpost.com
