Making Star Shine

Uday Shankar, the 54-year-old chief executive of Star India, works behind a standing desk (famously preferred by the likes of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and authors Virginia Woolf and Ernest Hemingway). Standing upright while working helps him keep fit and think better, says Shankar. It has certainly helped him keep Star India, the country's largest television broadcaster, in good shape.

Accepting the award, Mr Uday Shankar said, “I feel enormously humbled to be receiving this honour on behalf of Star India. We are a multinational company albeit with an Indian heart. Our endeavour has been to harness the transformational power of media to foster social change and thereby inspire a billion imaginations.''
